Welcome Father Edmund Luciano

Welcome, Fr. Edmund!

Our new pastor has arrived! Fr. Edmund Luciano is a native of the Diocese of Metuchen and a product of lifelong Catholic school education. He grew up in Kendall Park, NJ with his parents and sister and attended the local church and school of St. Augustine of Canterbury, with which he maintains a close connection. Fr. Edmund’s education continued at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville. Throughout these years, he felt an early calling to the priesthood, but also considered being a teacher or a college professor.

Attending Seton Hall University in South Orange and The Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome, Fr. Edmund had a wealth of experiences and friendships that he treasures to this day. While obtaining his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and Catholic studies, and minoring in world religions, Fr. Edmund was accepted into both Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for the study of theology and religious studies, as well as Phi Sigma Tau, the international honor society for philosophy. After graduation, Fr. Edmund worked briefly here at Sacred Heart as a youth minister. Then he was accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Metuchen and sent to St. Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained in 2009.

His first assignment was St. Ann’s parish and school in Raritan, where he enjoyed the opportunity to teach many levels of the school’s religion department. His other assignments have included Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway, Our Lady of Peace parish and school in Fords, St. Mary’s high School in South Amboy, full time work in the diocesan offices as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and Director of Major Gifts in the Development Office, acting as Master of Ceremonies for Bishop Bootkoski and Bishop Checchio, St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Bridgewater, and most recently, the Parish of the Visitation in New Brunswick. Over the years Fr. Edmund has been presented with the opportunity and the ability to celebrate the Sacraments in English, Italian, Latin and Spanish.

When not in the parish or enjoying the company of family and friends, especially his niece and nephew, Fr. Edmund serves as the subprior of the American Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George, a dynastic Catholic order of Italian chivalry, formally recognized in 1545 with origins back to the fourth century.

Fr. Edmund is eagerly looking forward to getting to know the parishioners of Sacred Heart and is excited about his mission as our new pastor. We’ve been praying for him and he has been praying for us!

Welcome, Fr. Edmund!
