Bishop James F. Checchio of the Diocese of Metuchen has shared uplifting news regarding the academic performance of students in diocesan Catholic schools. In light of recent media highlighting declining test scores in New Jersey public schools, Catholic school students stand out: 77% of students in the diocese are exceeding national proficiency norms in both Math and Reading.
This strong academic performance, paired with the faith-based and nurturing environment of Catholic education, is a testament to the hard work of students, families, and educators. Nationally, Catholic school students also outperformed their public school peers in 4th and 8th-grade assessments, as reported by The Nation’s Report Card.
Bishop Checchio encourages families to share this good news and invites others to experience the excellence and values-based formation offered by Catholic schools in the diocese.
